Alex Chilton

Earlier this week I intended to caricature the current Pope, who is the focus of a new child rape scandal in the Catholic Church, but then on St. Patrick’s Day, Alex Chilton died of a stroke. He was 59, a still too young age to leave the mortal plane, especially given his energy and vitality up to the day he died. So in tribute to him I dedicate this small part of the vast Web to him.

The drawing is based on his Big Star period, specifically this great YouTube video I stumbled upon as I binge viewed his music via concert footage.

Here he is in 1993 on a revival tour with a new Big Star line up.

And in 2006.

And in 2009.

Still sounded amazing. So long, Alex.

Election 2008 Sketchbook Page

polling station

Above is a sample of sketches I have done recently on the election and posted to a special Election 2008 Sketchbook Page. I am too freaked out right now about all the things that could go wrong today, so I can’t really think straight. So in lieu of an actual political cartoon, please enjoy these sketches. A real cartoon will appear Thursday.

Running Late Today

I have today’s cartoon written and drawn. It just needs ink. I will post it later tonight. Things just got away from me. Here’s a preview: It stars a famous war criminal!

Thanks for your patience

Cartoon Delayed by a Cold

Sorry for no cartoon this Tuesday. I came down with a raunchy cold. There will be one on Thursday. See you then!

BACK PAIN!

I apologize for no update on Tuesday. I was all set to start drawing Monday after a little housework, but said housework thought it would be funny to induce me with a little back pain. Did I say “a little”? I mean A LOT! I wound up laying down with an ice pack under the base of my spine for the rest of the day.

The upside is that I got some fun reading done – Carl Hiaasen’s Sick Puppy, and Douglas Adams’ Mostly Harmless (which strangely I had not read before, despite my life-long love of Adams’ work). Sick Puppy is a comic novel set in the late 90s about an environmentalist with an anger management problem who stalks and torments a litterbug Republican lobbyist. It’s hilarious.

Anyhoo, there will be a cartoon tomorrow. Promise!

Delays, Delays

Sorry for the lack of “dynamic content” this week. I was at a conference out of town for several days with little Internet access of my own, then I came home to find that my non-virtual life was making demands. THEN the Fourth of July (today) hit.

While I was out of town, this site received a huge spike in traffic. Thanks to Friendly Atheist for the approving link to the George Carlin cartoon — and welcome, everyone! I hope you enjoy my sense of humor and cartooning. C’mon back, y’hear?

Things will return to normal next week. Til then, have happy barbeque.

New Cartoon Delayed

Too much revelry with my fellow Cartoonists With AttitudeBarry Deutsch, Matt Bors, Mikhaela B. Reid, and Masheka Wood, and Shannon Wheeler – last night has caused a delay in production for today’s strip. We ate, drank and drew rude cartoons. Hopefully Matt will scan and post the drawing he did of me giving birth to my son. It’s wonderful.

I will post it later tonight, so check back tomorrow. My apologies for being such an irresponsible party hound.

just testing

I installed Evan Bader’s LJ cross-posting plug-in on the In Contempt site, so I’m seeing if it works.

Meanwhile, this kid over at cuteoverload is NOT Owen. We don’t own a cat, for one thing. But I can totally see him doing this.

Pretty cute. I considered linking to a video of a masturbating orangutan. Count your lucky stars.

Welcome to the New Site

A redesign of this site has been long overdue. Over the next couple weeks I will be converting the site to a new design using the Comicpress theme for the Wordpress CMS. And, because I indulge in certain masochistic tendencies, I am doing this with my other cartoon sites. At the same time.

If you are new to the strip and want to check the archives, you have two options:

Sorry if it’s a little clunky right now, but I plan to get this site all together by the end of the month. And new comics will continue to appear here and at Webcomics Nation.
