A-holes of the World
Pardon the late posting today. I was catching up on some sleep lost to back pain, a new project for work, preparations for Stumptown Comicsfest this weekend, and the usual parenting obligations.
Also, this cartoon is really a modified piece from my sketchbook. That’s why the news it reflects is a couple weeks old. Yet still fresh – the Taliban just publicly executed a young couple who were trying to elope in Afghanistan; and yesterday the U.S. Department of Homeland Security released a report on the rising threat posed by right wing hate groups, including some servicemen returning from Iraq who fit the Timothy McVeigh profile. Although the Obama White House released a similar report regarding left wing extremists prepared by the Bush White House last January, the new administration has felt enough backlash from conservatives to issue an apology to veterans groups. Certainly vets need our support, especially if we don’t want our neglect to turn them into McVeighs. But the last 8 years has seen a ridiculous amount of surveillance and civil liberties violations of left wing and liberal groups, Democrats, Greens and independents alike, as well as progressive religious organizations. None of those groups committed the kinds of violence that anti-abortion extremists or racist Armageddonists have.
