Hard, Harder, Hardest
The stupid thing is: allowing LGBT service men and women to serve openly in the military is actually more politically risky for the Obama White House than, say, squeezing another $83 billion out of thin air (or, really, the future.)
The bit about NATO: I noticed that during Obama’s trip to Europe, the U.S. press was dismissing the European contribution of several thousand troops as paltry. I blogged about it here and followed up here. As Bush had done with Democrats in Congress for so many years, my fellow Americans use questioning European testicular fortitude as a pressure tactic to get more war time concessions. Unlike the Congressional Dems, European powers are not so easily intimidated. They’ve already lost enough blood and treasure in Afghanistan while the BushAdmin was treating like a piƱata, busting it open and handing out the candy to its corporate cronies. We’re all a little wary, frankly.
