Faith in Our Leader
I wrote the script for this shortly after watching Obama’s press conference the other night. Given the enormity of the problems he has inherited, he has no choice but to ask for our patience as his administration sorts it all out. And one thing I have liked about him is that he comes off as deliberate, thoughtful and, yes, strategic. Yet as I watched his press conference I began to feel that the confidence he exudes, while perhaps rhetorically necessary and no doubt genuine, insists on not only our forbearance but our faith, too. His website asks for our input, at least about how to handle the economy, health care and so on, but it is really hard to see how the so-called “Geithner plan” bears the traces of the people’s handiwork. So far most of his major plans have all the markings of elite consensus.
I know: wot a surprise.
