Penal Colony Catch-22
Last Friday, the ObamAdmin decided to carry on the BushAdmin legal argument that “enemy combatants” held at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan have no Constitutional rights, despite a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that detainees at Guantanamo Bay do. Early that week the New York Times reported that Obama was willing to carry forward other odious Bush practices.
Today The Guardian reports that former Gitmo detainee Binyam Mohamed returned home to Britain, sporting injuries inflicted by guards right up to the day he left the prison:
Is it any wonder that the previously sunny Abdallah Al-Ajmi, after leaving Gitmo, turned into an angry suicide bomber who killed several people in Iraq?
Oh yeah, and Abu Ghraib has been redesigned and re-named as Baghdad Central Prison. It has a food court and a hair salon. Not kidding.
