The Fate of Jesse Helms’ Soul
Yes, another obituary cartoon. But I bet no other political cartoonist has rendered Jesse Helms’ rotting flesh. Or pictured him strangled by Satan’s penis.
There is probably a good reason for that. Something to do with “taste.” But, c’mon, it’s Jesse Helms. Just cuz he’s dead doesn’t mean he wasn’t one of the biggest assholes this country has ever seen. I am showing his memory as much respect as it deserves.

Amazingly enough, browsing the AAEC site, there are hardly any Jesse Helms at the pearly gates cartoons….yet!
The use of the devil got me thinking, maybe you could have had the devil with a bullwhip up his butt, since that was one of Jesse’s favorite photos.

You know, between this cartoon and the Carlin cartoon, maybe you’ve begun to carve out a specialized niche: actually good obituary cartoons.
